What does it mean to serve? Bobby certainly knows! At age 22, Bobby was commissioned in the Hawaii Army National Guard as a Second Lieutenant. He has continued to serve alternatively with the Guard and Reserves and will be retiring as a Colonel in March of 2021.
After graduating from the University of Hawai'i Bobby returned to Maui and joined the Maui Police Department. He served for 25 years and retired in 2011 as a Lieutenant.
In between working and raising a family, Bobby returned to the classroom to earn his Masters of Business Administration, (MBA), Degree. Soon after earning this degree the University of Hawaii Maui College contacted Bobby to ask if he could teach in the Administration of Justice program at the collegiate level. Bobby understood why there was a need for qualified lecturers. On average it was taking a student 4 or more years just to get an Associates degree on Maui due to the availability of classes. Because Bobby was able to complete his Masters degree on island due to a cohort program that was offered, he knew it was right to give back and accept the offer to teach. What he didn't know at the time was that he would continue to help out as a lecturer for 18 years!
While many retired police officers go into security work in their post retirement life, Bobby chose a different path serving in a whole new capacity. He is currently employed by a major airline as a flight attendant! And if that is not enough he also works a few days a week as an air traffic controller, (unicom operator), at the Kapalua airport. Again, he wandered into that job sort of as a favor because they were short handed and he had the right skill set and temperment to do the job. He is also a volunteer in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Imagine now if you will how successful someone like Bobby who serves by air by land and by sea will be serving you in the legislature! Bobby will be your total package serving in the Hawaii State House of Representatives. Please vote for Bobby (Robert G Hill III), when your primary election ballots arrive in the mail!
